Morion's PhotoGallery 101| Magellan's Cross in Cebu City

I am working here in Cebu for more than one year. Staying in the Queen City of the South is an opportunity to visit famous places that I can only read and see in the pages of Philippine History Books.

Let me share photos of my first visit to the location of Magellan's Cross, last July 16, 2010.

TRIVIA

Magellan's Cross was planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorers lead by Ferdinand Magellan upon his arrival in the Island of Cebu, Philippines on April 21, 1521. It symbolizes the arrival of Christianity and successful colonization of Philippines by Spain.
.

The cross that is currently housed in a chapel next to the Basilica Minore del Santo NiƱo located at Magallanes Street (Magellan's Street) is just a replica to protect the original from people who chipped away parts of the cross for souvenir purposes.

Magellan's cross is located at Magallanes Street just in front of city hall of Cebu City.
