Camiguin | Tuasan Falls

Satisfied with my street dancing shots, I decided not to witness the showdown performances of contingents from five municipalities of Camiguin in the annual Lanzones Festival at the provincial Grand Stand in Mambajao. Instead of braving the scorching heat of the sun to witness the colorful display of costumes and the rhythmic-ethnic dance moves of the participants, (unplanned) I headed to Catarman to check its latest tourism offering- the Tuasan Falls.

Tuasan Falls

Tuasan Falls, the newest tourist attraction in the province of Camiguin, is located in Barangay Mainit, Catarman. Barangay Mainit is more or less 45-minute jeepney ride from the capital town Mambajao. From eskina Mainit, where big signage of Tuasan Falls is posted, another 10 minutes (more or less) habal-habal ride to reach the spot.

The road going to the falls is 90% developed and paved (during my visit). Yep, it's an easy access to the newest gem of the province compared with past years wherein the road is only passable by habal-habal then trekking or horseback riding.

Tuasan Falls

Tuasan Falls is less-visited compared with the popular Katibawasan Falls. I mean we’re less than 20 on that day unlike in Katibasan where flock of tourists come and go every hour. But I’m afraid it will not take too long considering the road development. Anyway, I salute the local government of Camiguin for having a clear plan and good projects on Eco-tourism without sacrificing environmental protection and sustainability.
Tuasan Falls

I love the natural setting of big rocks that complements with the flow of cold-bubbling drops directly going to a mini-lagoon with crystal-clear water surrounded by rich flora. The water is really cold - refreshing!

Travel Notes
  • Tuasan Falls is more or less 5-minute habal-habal ride from Bura Soda Spring- another popular spot in Barangay Mainit, Catarman
  • There is NO ENTRANCE FEE as of this writing
  • The falls' impact is too strong- avoid getting close
  • No littering please! Let’s do our part in preserving the cleanliness and beauty of Tuasan Falls
  • Bring food and water - there are no sari-sari stores or restaurants in the area
  • Don’t forget your camera and enjoy!

How to Get There

Read detailed Camiguin Province Travel Guide here. Tuasan Falls, the newest tourist attraction in the province of Camiguin, is located in Barangay Mainit, Catarman. Barangay Mainit is more or less 45-minute jeepney ride from the capital town Mambajao. Ask the driver to drop you in eskina (crossing) Mainit - the jump-off point going to the waterfalls. From eskina Mainit, ride in a habal-habal that will take you to the location of the waterfalls. The waterfall is a short walk from the drop-off point.

  1. Big rocks, the relaxing sound of the water falls, the breathe of fresh air. Wow! I love it. Can't wait to get back there. Of course, my anti jet lag buddy, jetLAGFX will come with me.

  2. Haven't been to Camiguin but I'd love to go there. You just gave me another reason to really visit Camiguin, this Tuasan Falls! Thanks for sharing! :)
