On the Spot | Lanzones Festival 2014 of Camiguin Province

Early today, I had the chance to witness and join this year's celebration of Lanzones Festival, an annual thanksgiving on bountiful harvest of lanzones here in Camiguin Island, the country's second smallest province.

Camiguin is an island province of Mindanao also known as the Island Born of Fire because of its unique feature of having several active volcanoes. The province was also tagged as the Lanzones Capital of the Philippines with its pride of having the sweetest variety of lanzones in the country.

Highlights of the celebration are: the street dancing competition from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, from of Old Parola wharf in (Mambajao) going to Poblacion Barangay Hall; and the  showdown of the of  the contingents at the Provincial Stadium in the afternoon.

The colors, the smiles, the beat, the dance, the sweet fruit of Lanzones! We beat the heat of the sun to bring you these captured moments during 2014 Lanzones Festival of Camiguin.

  3. It's so nice to look at their colorful costumes and I hope I'll get a chance to witness their festival. I haven't tasted Lanzones from Camiguin, is it as sweet or sweeter than Laguna's lanzones?

  6. I have been to Camiguin before and it is a beautiful small island province. The best part of it was pristine crescent-shaped White Island. I have never heard of Lanzones festival before, but it may be hard to catch since there seems to be limited hotels there. How far ahead did you have to reserve?

  7. Oh, last month, there were plenty of lanzones being sold in the streets. Some of them are from Camiguin. I would love to experience the lanzones festival at least once in my lifetime.

  8. Do you have any idea how long has this festival been around? It sounds pretty interesting and feels like it's something passed down from many years back, ya know, celebrating harvest with performances etc, definitely not something the 21st century people will do!

  10. I envy people who always had opportunity to be part and witness such festivities. I several times, I wasted my tickets for the Sinulog, Masskara, and Kadawayan. I hope 2015 will give the opportunity I always wanted. Great sets of photos! This post proves that "Festivals.. It's More Fun in The Philippines".

  11. OMG I have never witnessed such a diversity of colors and this Lanzones festival seems an explosion of bright colors, incredible dances and drums. I love the way the Queen looks although that outfit seems pretty heavy to wear. A really spectacular event, indeed!
